Are YOU still not on Twitter yet?

  • Aug. 7th, 2008 at 10:00 AM

Easily the coolest new technology I have seen in a long time...twitter has become a regular part of my life.  It is one of those things that once you're addicted to it, you wonder how you lived without it and how you could ever live without out it.

For those who don't know what Twitter is...

I encourage you to check out the twitter.com website, there is a nice video right at the main page that explains it. But let me try and sum it up; Basically...it connects people and keeps them instantly updated to there whereabouts and stuff they want to share.  A lot of people are calling it "instant blogging."  Once you sign-up for an account, you can update what you are doing or share something via the website or texting in an update. Then people who have signed up to follow you...get your update via the website OR by a text on their phone.  To me that is the coolest part...right on your cell phone you get updates throughout the day as to what your friends are doing.  Best part of it all ITS FREE!!!

For those who are resisting Twitter...
I think someone of you are just anti-establishment...meaning you tend to resist everything that the masses seem to be getting excited about.  While I kindof get this mindset and have fallen prey to it myself...you really are missing out on alot of fun and a way to stay connected with your friends.  I also have heard some of you say that you dont want to get all those texts...that you already have enough to keep up with and dont need something else to add.  Thats the beauty of twitter, you can determine who (if anyone) you want to get phone notifications from.  You might choose like many of my friends, to only update and view from the website. If you have unlimited texts, I would recommend selecting a least a couple of friends (ME) to receive phone updates.

All that to say...I would love to know what YOU are doing and to stay as connected as I can with your life. That is when technology works best in my opinion, when it connects people. I wonder if some of you who care enough about me to read my blog might want to follow me on Twitter? Search for me "GodSideKurt"  If you choose to join us you will be surprised how many conversations can start as a direct result of a tweet someone sent...it really is amazing.

PS - For those of you who arent willing to join, you can still bookmark THIS page and read my updates without joining.
PSS - Coming soon I will be posting on some much needed Twitter etiquette/manners.

I will happily admit that I stole this title and concept from my buddy Matt and his post found HERE

are you fasting from this too....it seems like something that fits into your fasting criteria....I for one can tell you I will never twitter....I don't want to be that connected to anyone. When you turn fifty you get to thumb your nose at the things the masses get excited about. I wonder what J.C. would think of twitter....I seem to recall he resisted things the masses found popular.....I still prefer good old fashion one on one, long, deep conversation. For me this is still the best way to really get to know someone.........Lisa

No I am not fasting from connecting with people via media...which includes blogging, email, or twitter. Fasting was never meant to separate people, in fact its supposed to draw us closer to THE relationship.

Iam proud of you joining FB and myspace and responding to emails and reading blogs...you are not the average 50 year old.

How do I stay connected: Good 'ol fashion email or short text message invite to do coffee/lunch.

I'm about eight steps behind everybody in techology. I'm old school liek dat and I'm fine with it.

So what about those of us who tend to verbally spew the wrong things?? I already don't post half the blogs I write so am afraid I will always have the urge to twitter when it's not the right thing to twit (is that a word? ;) And why would people want to know what's going on in my life anyway?? But that's more of a personal issue ;) - Carrie JP

Well to quote a friends blog recently;" it's better to have loved and lost...than to never have loved at all"

Life isnt about playing it safe and making sure we never tick people off or say something we regret. TRUST me I make alot of mistakes in this area and have learned that God lovingly calls me to keep speaking and sharing...knowing full well I will mess up.

Move past the visitors center Carrie...God is calling you on the adventure of twitter!!!

i found out about Twitter a couple days ago when my friend Marshal Fimoth told me to get one. At first I was thinking it was like a facebook, or myspace. I not sure if it is either. I created one,and im am going to give it a chance since I know more of my friends are using it.

Ok I logged onto your blog and after reading what you wrote about twitter and hearing about it from a bunch of other people I figured I'd give it a try...I just hope I remember to update it LOL there seems to be so much new in technology lately, but looks interesting...reminds me of the status thing on Facebook.

Good post, Kurt! You can't steal what I give away freely. :) I'm glad we're Twitter friends AND IRL friends!
